David Frydman
Special Education, principal, and educator in Reno, Nevada
My name is David Frydman and I am humbled and honored to be serving as principal at Desert Heights Elementary in Reno, Nevada.
I began my career in education in the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, NV teaching third grade at Elbert Edwards Elementary School. I have been very fortunate to have many different teaching experiences to help me grow and learn as an educator. I was an Educational Computer Strategist in the district helping student and teachers integrate technology into the curriculum. I was also a Project Facilitator in Literacy for Curriculum and Professional Development coaching teachers in using technology to focus instruction on phonemic awareness, phonics and comprehension. I was an assistant principal at Ollie Detwiler Elementary and Vail Pittman Elementary before becoming the principal at Pittman Elementary and Helen Jydstrup Elementary. After 9 years serving as a principal in the Clark County School District, I moved to Reno, NV to be one of the Executive Directors of Special Education in the Washoe County School District. I am excited to be starting my 25th year in education in Nevada supporting the students, families and staff at Desert Heights Elementary.
I graduated from Dominican College in New York with dual certification in elementary and secondary education. I hold a Master's Degree in Educational Technology from Lesley University and an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership and Supervision from Nova Southeastern University. In addition, I attended the Executive Leadership Academy and earned certification in Educational Leadership and Management from the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University. I was a trainee in the Nevada Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities at University of Nevada, Reno.
Besides being a life-long educator, I'm on the Board of Amplify Life, a non-profit organization that serves children and adults with disabilities across the life span.
We are very fortunate to have some of the most dedicated and committed staff members in the school district working at Desert Heights Elementary School. Our staff and teachers will be focusing on building relationships with students in order to help improve academic and behavioral achievement.
Our school will be embracing inclusive practices for students with different abilities and providing instruction to students in the least restrictive environment so that all students feel a part of our school community.
