Dr. Caitlin Bernard

Describing herself as a full-spectrum academic, OB/GYN Dr. Caitlin Bernard fills several roles in women’s reproductive health. In addition to post-graduate work at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, Dr. Caitlin Bernard serves as an assistant professor of family planning at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
Dr. Bernard’s international work includes treating women in clinics and teaching at Moi University in western Kenya. In 2017, The New York Times covered her efforts to reduce maternal mortality, treat HIV, and provide contraceptives.
Investigating issues relating to women’s health, Dr. Bernard also participates in research on preeclampsia, family planning services, postpartum care, community-based provision of urine pregnancy tests as linkage to reproductive care and contraceptive implants.
Dr. Bernard’s educational background also includes a BS from Binghamton University and an MD from Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, where she stayed to fulfill her residency in obstetrics and gynecology. Also at Upstate, Dr. Bernard earned several dean’s letters of commendation and was nominated for the Gold Humanism Award.
In 2015, she joined the Society for Family Planning and the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals. Later she became a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
