Daryl Byrd, DDS is a prominent general dentist who has practiced in two states, authored two books, won numerous awards and provided his industry insight to prestigious schools and publications.

Dr. Byrd graduated from Xavier University in 1980 and then pursued higher education at Meharry Medical School of Dentistry, where he earned his DDS. He received his dentistry license in the state of Louisiana in 1988, and was in private practice in New Orleans and Kenner for the next 24 years.

Dr. Byrd continued to challenge himself and others academically over the course of his career. He became a visiting professor at his alma mater, Meharry Medical School of Dentistry, in 1993 and continues to guest lecture there to this day. He has been an adjunct professor in Practice Management at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry since 2007. Dr. Byrd also served on the Committee on Human Subjects at Xavier University’s College of Pharmacy from 2003-2004. Always passionate about helping others enter the field of dentistry, Dr. Byrd endowed a $10,000 scholarship for Meharry students in 2006.

Over the years Dr. Byrd has achieved a number of milestones in the fields of dentistry and anesthesia. Many are related to his specialties in digital radiology, conscious sedation and advanced orthodontic surgeries. He was the first AA dentist to use NSK’s handpiece for root canals in the United States. He also was the first AA dentist in Louisiana to utilize computerized anesthesia and the CEREC method.
