Dr. James Calloway
Educator, Teacher, and Public Speaker in San Francisco
Hello, I’m Dr. James. I’m an Educator living in San Francisco. I am a fan of education, reading, and writing. You can read my book with a click on the button above.
I was affiliated with the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) for forty-seven years.
I was a Teacher, Counselor, Dean of Boys/Head Counselor, Assistant Principal and Principal. I am writing this book to share some of the various experiences, strategies and techniques used by me as an Educator in San Francisco.
I attended Bret Harte Elementary School, Portola Junior High and Galileo High School. I also attended San Francisco State University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts – Major: Sociology, Standard Teaching Credential and Master of Arts – Major: Education Administration and Credential.
What led me to the teaching profession were two teachers I had in school: Mrs. Beaumont, my 5 and 6 grade teacher at Bret Harte Elementary School, and Mr. Magid, my homeroom and Civics teacher in the 12 grade at Galileo High School.
They both stated to me, I could help my race when I got older and, if I prepared myself. My admiration for those two teachers made me decide, I wanted to be a teacher like them. I was hired by the San Francisco Unified School District as a Paraprofessional in 1971 and as a teacher in 1972 at Ben Franklin Junior High School.
When I was hired by SFUSD, Mrs. Beaumont and Mr. Magid were still working for the SFUSD. I had the opportunity to inform them both that I had become a teacher, working for the SFUSD. They were both proud of my accomplishments.
Fifty years later, I am writing this book.
