Jennifer Hudson Allen, PhD

Dr. Jennifer Hudson Allen was born and raised in Western New York before relocating to the DFW Metroplex in 1991. She began her undergraduate career at the University of Texas-Arlington in 1992 and was initiated as a member of the Iota Psi chapter of Delta Zeta Sorority in spring 1993. She served as VP of Membership and VP of New Member Education. As a sorority member, Dr. Allen received awards for Outstanding Pledge in the Province, the Rush Award for Achieving Quota, Omega Kappa Honors, served as President of the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society, and as Secretary and Vice President of UTA's Panhellenic Council.

As a History and English double major, Dr. Allen served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society as an undergraduate. She received her undergraduate degrees in both History and English in 1996 at UTA. In 1999, Dr. Allen received her M.A. in History and began teaching middle and high school humanities the same year. Dr. Allen chose to return to UTA in 2001 and was awarded her Doctorate in transatlantic history in 2005. While at UT Arlington, Dr. Allen was awarded the David Rumsey grant for research, the UTA Transatlantic Fellowship, the Max Kele Award from the Southern Historical Association, and the George Wolfskill Award for Outstanding Dissertation in History.

Dr. Allen taught at the largest private coeducational school in the southwest for a decade. During her tenure, she taught in the social studies department, wrote grants for the development department, and coached an award winning cheerleading program. She also received the Catholic Foundation's Work of Heart Award for Excellence in Catholic Education, Teacher of the Year by the Notre Dame Club of Dallas, and has twice been named as a Commended Teacher of Texas History by Humanities Texas.

In 2013, Dr. Allen joined the faculty of Brookhaven College as a Visiting Scholar. Currently, Dr. Allen teaches both sections of US History and World Civilizations at Brookhaven. Her areas of interest and concentration include transatlantic history, Anglo-American comparative legal history, and British history.

Dr. Allen also volunteers her time with Delta Zeta Sorority as the National History Chairwoman. She is a member of the Delta Zeta Plano/Collin County Alumnae and Surfing Sisters.
