Dr Michelle Harrison

Calcutta, India

I have been an advocate for women and children throughout my more than four decades of working life as a physician, an educator and an author.

My books include Self-Help for Premenstrual Syndrome and The Pre-Teen’s First Book About Love, Sex, and AIDS. My work has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Mademoiselle magazine, and Glamour magazine.

A former executive director of the Johnson & Johnson Institute for Children, and Worldwide Director of Medical Affairs in the Consumer Division. I currently reside in Kolkata, India, where I founded Childlife Preserve Shishur Sevay (In Service of Children), a unique and inclusive, non-institutional home for orphaned girls, those who have lost all connection to family and community and would otherwise be housed in institutions.

The girls are thriving, learning, and beginning to see different futures for themselves. Our children, able and disabled, share their lives with each other and with me, their “Mummy”.
