Dr. Owens

Dr. Sandra Owens is an associate professor of social work and a Hartford Faculty Scholar. She is also a lead investigator for The Lincy Institute at UNLV. Owens is an expert in mental healthcare, elder caregiving, respite care for parents of special needs children in the foster system, and mental health coping behaviors of minority female elder caregivers, and demographics of youth in the Clark County School District. She has authored journal articles, encyclopedia entries, book chapters, and newsletter articles on these topics.

She has provided trainings to hundreds of social workers at the local, state, national and international levels.

Owens has administered more than $630,000 in grants and contracts to improve the mental health and well-being of seniors and foster children and their caregivers.

She is committed to assisting local, nonprofit agencies with meeting their organizational goals, and to solving myriad problems facing individuals, families, and communities.
