Dr. Raymond W. Lam is Professor and Associate Head for Research in the Department of Psychiatry, University of British Columbia, and Director of the Mood Disorders Centre of Excellence at the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health within the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute.

My research examines clinical and neurobiological factors in seasonal, atypical, difficult-to-treat and workplace depression, biological effects of light, clinical trials, clinical guidelines, eMental Health, and treatment programs for depression. This work has been supported by many agencies including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Canadian Psychiatric Research Foundation, and by investigator-initiated industry research grants.

I have published over 380 scientific articles and book chapters (including over 275 peer-reviewed papers), and edited or authored 9 books on depression; Google Scholar lists >11,000 citations to my published work, with an h-index=59. I sit on the editorial boards of 7 international journals, including CNS Drugs and BMC Psychiatry, and review for numerous journals and funding agencies. I am also a champion for evidence-based medicine and an editorial advisor for the international Cochrane Collaboration.

I have received several awards for my research and teaching, including the JM Cleghorn Award for Clinical Research (Canadian Psychiatric Association, 2015), Distinguished Faculty Award for Overall Excellence (UBC Faculty of Medicine, 2014), Silver Anniversary Leadership Award (UBC Medical Alumni, 2006), Scientific Achievement Award (Vancouver Coastal Health, 2003), and the Douglas Utting Prize and Medal for Depression Research (SMBD-JGH/McGill University, 2001).

I am an elected Distinguished Fellow of both the Canadian Psychiatric Association and the American Psychiatric Association, a Foundation Fellow of the International Society for Affective Disorders, and the Executive Chair of the Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments (CANMAT).
