Dr Alan Porter
Dr. Alan H. Porter, Founder and Director of Porter Radiation Oncology Centers, brings more than three decades of experience to his work. Since 1974, he has been committed to using cutting-edge therapy to treat individuals who have cancer. Named one of the Best Doctors in America 14 years in a row, Dr. Alan H. Porter holds certification from the American Board of Radiology and enjoys distinction as a Fellow of the American College of Radiology.
The Porter Centers use therapies including three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy, high-dose-rate brachytherapy, tomotherapy, isotope medicine, and prostate seed implants. They cater to patients in and around the communities of Venice, Englewood, Sarasota, and Port Charlotte, on the Gulf Coast of Southwest Florida. The facilities accept referrals as well as those seeking a second opinion. For patients' convenience, the Centers accept insurance plans from most preferred providers and health-maintenance organizations, as well as Medicaid.
Aside from treating patients at Porter Radiation Oncology Centers, Dr. Alan H. Porter is a consultant for the Medicare branch of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida. He also participates in the Physicians Advisory Council and previously has presided over the Florida Radiological Society, American Cancer Society, Sarasota County Medical Society, and the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Porter is a member of organizations including the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology and the Association of Community Cancer Centers. In addition, he helped establish the Hospice Foundation of Sarasota, Manatee, and Charlotte Counties.
Dr. Alan H. Porter completed his education at the University of Florida (UF), where he earned a BS in Chemistry, an MS in Radiation Physics, and an MD. He also completed his residency at UF, where he served as Chief Resident and Clinical Instructor. He did further study at M. D. Anderson Center in Orlando.
