Dr. Alejandro Herrera
Managing Director in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
An accomplished public administrator in the Dominican Republic, Dr. Alejandro Herrera served as the managing director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) from 2011 to 2020. In this position, Dr. Alejandro Herrera led the organization in monitoring, regulating, and certifying aeronautical operations in the Dominican Republic. Under his leadership, IDAC received certifications in quality standards such as ISO 14001, related to environmental management systems, and 45001, which pertains to health and safety at work.
A doctoral graduate of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, Dr. Herrera completed post-graduate studies in history and geography at the Caribbean at the Catholic University of Santo Domingo. He also holds a specialty in judicial studies from Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University and a master of arts in government and public administration from the Complutense University of Madrid.
Alongside his leadership role with IDAC, Dr. Herrera wrote the book La Gesta Restauradora (The Restorative Feat), which earned first place in a Secondary Literary Contest, as well as the book With One Foot in Each Century. For more than 25 years, he has contributed as a guest columnist to various newspapers in the Dominican Republic.
