Dr. Artin Massihi

A well-regarded physician, Dr. Artin Massihi graduated with high honors with a B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine. Demonstrating academic excellence at UC Irvine, Dr. Massihi received a research grant from the American Heart Association at the UCLA School of Medicine to investigate the effects of calcium channels and calcium conductance in heart cells using various cardiac electrophysiological methods. The goal of his project was to discover if calcium conductance directly changed the contractility of heart cells, with the goal of applying his findings to future patients via gene therapy with heart failure. At UCI, Dr. Artin Massihi also did extensive research in endocrinology, focusing on the battle against pancreatic cancer, using in-situ hybridization and immuno-histochemistry to study certain proteins over-expressed in chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer, with the goal of discovering the cause of which proteins are over-expressed in these processes. He further volunteered with the Flying Samaritans, a group which provide free medical care to indigent populations in Baja California.

Dr. Artin Massihi attended Loma Linda University School of Medicine, where he focused on becoming a physician and practicing "whole patient care" with Christian values integrated in the study and art of medicine. At Loma Linda, Dr. Massihi received the prestigious Walter E. Macpherson Society research grant, enabling him to conduct research in orthopedic surgery and study the effects of different types of joint replacements in hip wear in patients with total hip arthroplasty.

Dr. Artin Massihi then completed an internship in general surgery at USC+Los Angeles County General Hospital. At USC, he was honored by the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California Department of Surgery for Outstanding Teaching to Medical Students in 2005. Dr. Massihi became interested in trauma and the care of acutely ill patients, leading him to pursue a career in the field of emergency medicine. He subsequently completed a residency in emergency medicine at the Kern Medical Center Department of Emergency Medicine in Bakersfield.

Board Certified by the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Artin Massihi is highly qualified to diagnose, assess, and treat patients with acute trauma, illness and other life threatening conditions.
