I love what I do! That’s right, I am one of those fortunate people who enjoys their job. I’m a licensed psychologist and through the process of psychotherapy, I help individuals who are 18 years of age and older and are experiencing emotional distress (sadness, anxiety, anger, resentment, etc.) find contentment. I am currently accepting new patients in my private practice in Boca Raton, Florida and am available via online therapy for eligible patients throughout Florida and internationally.
You’re probably wondering if I know what I am doing; am I competent? Well, I have several big, fancy degrees, including a doctorate in psychology and extensive trainings. You can read more about my education and professional trainings below. I, however, believe that the makings of a good psychologist include more than diplomas. Research has shown that a connection between client and counselor is necessary for the therapeutic process to be effective. So, I am going to use this section, in part, to discuss my personal style of therapy in an effort to help you decide if I might be the right therapist for you.
I work best with a client who likes to learn and who is ready to do the work. The type of therapy that I offer is direct, collaborative, and interactive. I’ve been told that I am compassionate and a good listener; however, I am not afraid to challenge your way of thinking. I will listen, encourage, and teach. You will, ideally, express, learn, and implement. Therapy may be uncomfortable at times, but if you’ve gotten this far, you already are!
To help you, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Via CBT, you will learn to identify the errors in your thoughts processes that lead you to experience disturbing emotions. I will then teach you the skills necessary to change unhelpful thoughts and create lasting improvement in mood and functioning. In simple terms (probably too simple): by changing your thoughts, we will change your feelings.
It takes courage and vulnerability to seek therapy, but the results (and I am so grateful to have been a part of so many) can be life changing and, in some cases, life-saving.
