For more than two decades, Dr. Brian K. Johnson has been a leader in academic administration and education planning. Currently a senior partner at Advance Higher Ed, LLC, based in Rockville, Maryland, Dr. Johnson assists businesses and non-profit associations in educational support, outreach, and public relations. Businesses that benefit from his expertise include Black Entertainment Television, where Dr. Brian K. Johnson creates and oversees the network's high school attendance and educational achievement programs. Additionally, Dr. Johnson currently serves as the Vice President of the Community College Division of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, where he is responsible for the society's outreach to approximately 1,200 U.S. community colleges and for increasing the profile of the society in the community college setting.
Dr. Brian K. Johnson's work with the Community College Division of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars is aided by his history of success as a community college administrator. From 2007 until 2009, Dr. Johnson served as the president of Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland, one of the country's preeminent community colleges. During his tenure, Dr. Brian K. Johnson oversaw the school's $230 million annual budget, secured $140 million in funding earmarked for buildings on two of the school's campuses, and raised $24.3 million during a campaign to fund student programs and scholarships.
Prior to his tenure at Montgomery College, Dr. Brian K. Johnson spent sixteen years serving at Mesa Community College in Mesa, Arizona, rising from a program advisor in 1988 to the college's Vice President of Student and Community Services in 2004. During his time at Mesa Community College, Dr. Brian K. Johnson led a team that opened a second comprehensive campus for the school, coordinated the creation of a one-stop enrollment services program, and served as dean of the college's Student and Community Services department. Time magazine recognized the department as an outstanding student services unit in an issue highlighting notable colleges.
Building upon his success at Mesa Community College, Dr. Brian K. Johnson served from 2004 until 2007 as Chief Executive Officer and Senior Vice President overseeing student and community services at the Community College of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
