Dr Catherine Morgan

Edinburgh, UK

Educator with a passion for enabling individuals to reach their potential - and a geographer with a love for the environment, conservation and sustainability with a PhD in Urban Hydrology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education.

Key roles: Network Manager, Project Manager, Client Engagement Manager, Educational Consultant, CPD Provider, Web & Content Manager, Dissemination & Science Communicator and Mentor.

I currently have two main roles at Heriot-Watt University. I manage the university's Water Academy, and I manage the UK's Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Network. Both roles require essential elements of client and stakeholder engagement, multi-modal communication (events, webinars, blogs, social media etc), strategic marketing and project management.

I formerly worked as the academy facilitator of the University of Edinburgh's The Global Environment and Society Academy, a collaborative network of experts developing innovative solutions for the world’s most challenging problems. I brokered collaborative relationships across disciplines and between academia, industry and third sector organisations, provided strategic vision and direction, as well as promotion of the organisation’s activities.

My core skills are rooted in my ability to build relationships, communicate and disseminate complex ideas to multiple audiences, and to co-ordinate projects by recognising and nurturing potential in each team member and developing their skills. I consult with industry and businesses to improve their outreach, knowledge share and skills development. I develop and foster strong stakeholder networks through client engagement and demonstrating excellence in meeting client objectives. I deliver high quality training to varied audiences. I mentor PhD students and MSc students and I disseminate and communicate to global audiences through web-based platforms, content management and social media marketing.
