As an innovative higher education administrator devoted to education, college teaching, and life-long learning, I have established a track record for “speaking with great power” as an inspirational speaker, keynoter, and conference speaker. I devote the spoken word to helping others improve the quality of their lives by “equipping them with tools to empower themselves." My presentations include Building Effective Teams: A Journey Toward Organizational Growth and Development; This Thing Called Called Leadership; Bounce Back: The Ultimate Strategy for Survival; Women as Agents of Change; Empowerment: An Inward and Outward Journey for Women; and Self-Esteem: A Biblical Perspective. In addition to presenting for professional organizations and at local and national conferences, I present at events sponsored by women’s ministries and other female audiences.
In 2006, I published Understanding the Empowerment Phenomenon (Verlag Publishers) which documents the long-term effects of a Pilot Women's Empowerment Program on female college students. In 2012, Making Our Voices Heard: Women of Color in Academia (Nova Science
Publishers) was published. My contributing chapter, “Taking Matters Into My Own Hands: Strategies for Surviving the Culture of Academia,” builds upon my personal beliefs, values and ethics and how they supported my transition from the corporate and nonprofit arenas to the academy.
In addition to my higher education and speaking careers, I enjoy singing negro spirituals, anthems, classical music, and show tunes. I am active with the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Choir, the Germantown Concert Choir, and the W. Russell Johnson Music Guild, Inc. (an affiliate of the National Association of Negro Musicians).
