Creating a working budget

There are many different kinds of budgets out there. The kind of budget that you use should depend on your situation. If you are trying to pay off debt, you would manage your finances a little bit differently than if you are just trying to maintain good Drcredit.

Here are some tips for any kind of budget:

1. Make sure to include all expenses in your budget. This includes all entertainment, clothes, eating out, and other things. Not considering your $30 dinner with friends every Friday night might add up to a bigger problem than you think. Sometimes it takes a while to get everything on your budget.

2. Be realistic in your estimates for items that don't have a set monthly amount. It helps to look at your history. If you're wondering how much you spend on eating out or on entertainment each month, check your bank statement. It's worth the extra legwork to have an accurate budget.

3. Don't include credit cards in your income category but do include your payments in your expenses category. It's more work than it seems to be to add credit cards into your budget but you have to make sure not to look at them like they're free money. That is what puts many people in a financial bind. Realize that you do need to pay them every month and, although you use them every month, it doesn't mean that you have extra money.

4. Plan for special occasions. Make sure that you have a budget for birthdays, Christmas, Ladies Night, and whatever else routinely comes up. It's worth it not to have these events become an emergency because you didn't plan ahead. If you would like, you can even put some money away monthly toward gifts for holidays. Many parents that plan their budgets put money away every month for Christmas. Through budgeting ahead of time, you can ensure that you will be able to get those that you love whatever they want and whatever you want to get them. You won't have to take shortcuts or cut back on other expenses around the holidays because you will already have the money put away.

5. Stick to it. This sounds like common sense but a lot of people make budgets that they don't stick to and then end up in a bad situation because of it. There are many methods of sticking to it, including the envelope method, that many people use. One of the ways that you can try to ensure sticking to your budget is to have multiple accounts and have money automatically transferred or deposited into the accounts that only pay certain things.
