Dr. Edward R. McInnis

Dr. Edward R. McInnis, Lt. (N), MD, CCFP, is a seasoned professional in family and emergency medicine. He has a decade of experience in emergency and trauma care and sixteen years as a family physician. In addition to his medical expertise, he is a dedicated father of four, a lieutenant in the Canadian Armed Forces, a Navy reservist, and an active community volunteer.

Born and raised in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, he is the oldest of four siblings. From an early age, he showed a passion for sports, excelling in hockey, baseball, tennis, and golf. His achievements in hockey and baseball earned him competitive opportunities, including playing Junior A hockey and being scouted by the Boston Red Sox as a potential pitcher. This athletic enthusiasm persisted into adulthood, where he incorporated weightlifting into his routine.

He developed a strong work ethic early in life. By the age of ten, he had a paper route, and by thirteen, he had secured his first full-time job at McDonald's. After completing high school, he pursued a BBA at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, graduating in 1992. Following his undergraduate studies, he traveled across the United States, broadening his experiences before advancing his education.

At Dalhousie University, he earned a BSc (Honors) in Biochemistry and Genetics in 1997 and an Epidemiology Certification in 2002. He graduated from Dalhousie Medical School in 2004 with a Doctor of Medicine degree and then completed his postgraduate training in Emergency and Family Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

Dr. Edward R. McInnis's professional qualifications include licensure from the Medical Council of Canada and certification from the Canadian College of Family Physicians. He also earned a commissioned rank as a lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy, underscoring his dedication to serving both his country and community.

Throughout his career, he has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Prince Edward Island Top Medical Student Scholarship and a Special Citation for Meritorious Service in the Canadian Armed Forces. He has also contributed to academia, holding positions such as Associate Professor at Dalhousie University and Senior Professor at the Canadian Forces School of Physician Assistants.
