My name is Drew Doherty and I am a Cast Member at the Disneyland Resort. I give tours on the Jungle Cruise and help guests on their journey to the Temple of the Forbidden Eye.
One of my biggest focuses is that guests get everything out of their vacation and more. We are always looking to exceed our guests expectations. From this job I have learned how to handle very delicate situations from guests ranging in age, race, and background. Learning how to approach difficult situations and remain culturally sensitive is a trait that can only be attained from working on a company like Disney. We see tens of thousands of people each day that constantly challenge us to do better, and learn how to make magic for our guests, or keep our guests safe.
Transparency and Openness are two traits I believe are the most important in my job. While we strive to maintain the show and immersion in everything we do, at some point telling an adult who is obviously frustrated "The ride is closed because the snake got loose!" only makes things worse. I believe in choosing your audience and tackling every situation on an individual and personal level.
I recently became an Attraction trainer on Indiana Jones Adventure which has challenged me in ways I didn't think I could be challenged both professionally and personally. In my training, I have grown in immense ways. I have learned how to slow myself down, and focus on what the most important thing in that moment is. I have also learned how to better organize and manage my time so that I can tackle projects and finish them in a timely manner, while still giving all the necessary information I need to.
Outside of work Video Games are a big part of my life. They allow me, like I get to help guests do at Disneyland, escape to another world and immerse. League of Legends is a game I have played for nearly 5 years and continue to play regularly. It allows me to, even for a bit, escape my own reality and dive into a new world. Video Games mean a lot to me. While I struggled with coming out during college, it was video games like League of Legends and World of Warcraft that helped me escape my brain long enough to really come out ahead on a very difficult time in life."
