Drew Powell

Student in Georgia

My name is Drew Powell, and I'm from Williamsburg, Virginia. I have lived there my whole life up until now, and when I was growing up, lacrosse was very popular in my area. As the youngest of three boys, I was introduced to the sport very early. It was so early that I could not even play on a team because I was too small for the contact sport. This led me to spend all of my free time practicing and waiting until the day when I could finally play, and when it came, I immediately fell in love with the sport as I had a huge skill advantage over everyone around me. My whole life became lacrosse. All of my friends came from my lacrosse team; it was all I did during the day, and I thought about it constantly. This obsession with lacrosse, as I got older, taught me many life lessons that I still carry with myself to this day, such as the value of teamwork and working hard. Leaving the sport behind for college has been very difficult, but the lessons I learned are what keep me going and pushing forward to this day. I'm very grateful for the opportunity to play the sport and am happy that it made such a big impact on my life.
