Dr. Federico Castro-Moure

A neurosurgeon at Alameda County Medical Center, Dr Federico Castro-Moure has enjoyed a distinguished career in medicine as a researcher and clinical instructor at the University of California, San Francisco (East Bay) Neurosurgery Division. Prior to accepting his current role as an instructor of neurological surgery at UCSF (East Bay), Dr. Federico Castro-Moure served as an Assistant Professor of Anatomy and Cell Biology at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, where he taught an Allied Health course to students in anatomy and physiology. Dr. Castro-Moure has also instructed students in gross anatomy and regional anatomy of the head and neck. He additionally has experience as a lecturer and teaching assistant of neuroanatomy.

Dr. Federico Castro-Moure possesses extensive research experience and has had his work published in several medical journals. Dr. Castro-Moure performed a clinical evaluation on the efficacy of endoscopic stereotatic interventions for the treatment of brain lesions, published in Acta Neurochirurgica, and conducted a random double-blind trial to assess the efficacy of computer-assisted volumetric resections of intracranial lesions while at Wayne State, published in Proceedings of Clinical Application of Modern Imaging Technology. Dr. Castro-Moure also participated in a randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a single intravenous dose of a drug to individuals with severe head injury for Pfizer, Inc.

In addition to his research findings, Dr. Castro-Moure has written on a variety of topics, including morphological plasticity, chronic hypoxia, and neuroendoscopic laser stereotaxis. An accomplished speaker, Dr. Castro-Moure has made oral presentations to such organizations as the American Paraplegia Society, German and North American Skull Base Societies, and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.
