Dr. George Snelling
Retired Dentist and Local Philanthropist in Augusta, Georgia
A former chairman of the Georgia Medical Center Authority, Dr. George Snelling practiced dentistry in Augusta for over 20 years before retiring in 1998 to focus on real estate investment and local philanthropy. Supplementing his portfolio, Dr. George Snelling served as a board member of both the Home Builders Association of Augusta and the Georgia Self Storage Association. Additionally, he is a Governor-appointed citizen member of the Georgia State Properties Commission and Building Authority (GSPCBA).
Through his service with the GSPCBA, Dr. Snelling, who at the time owned the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame building, offered to transfer the property to the Medical College. Upon approval by the Georgia Legislature in 2012, the new campus has helped revitalize the downtown Augusta core. A fervent supporter of education in the region, he has also supported the Georgia Health Sciences Foundation School of Dentistry's building fund and the Augusta State University Foundation.
Furthermore, Dr. Snelling is a vice chairman of Goodwill of Middle Georgia and former president of its offshoot organization Good Vocations, which provides shelf-stocking and custodial employment opportunities to people with disabilities.
