Greetings. I am a science communicator with a special interest in medical technologies and brain imaging. From 2008-9, during my postdoctoral fellowship in Neuroscience Communication at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Trieste, I helped manage my unit's public engagement efforts and presented papers as part of the European Neuroscience and Society Network. Before that, I was Lecturer in Science Journalism at City University in London, and Assistant Manager of the UK Focus for Biomedical Engineering. This was as part of my job at the Royal Academy of Engineering in London.I have twenty years' experience in print journalism combined with an up-to-date knowledge of social media and coding for web development: I was part of the the winning team at a UCB-sponsored Hackathlon last year.I have published over 700 articles about science in UK newspapers and magazines, including New Scientist and The Guardian. I have been awarded prizes for science communication from NESTA, Cosmopolitan, the UKRC, The Daily Telegraph and the BT Technology Journalist of the Year Awards. As well as training journalists at City University, I have also trained scientists as science communicators. For four years I ran postgraduate and undergraduate science writing workshops at Sussex University. I also hosted Brighton's Cafe Scientifique.I have helped colleagues win the attention of international policy organisations such as the US Food and Drug Administration, by writing press releases for them and advising them on media strategy. In 2006 I prepared a £2M grant proposal that reached a shortlist of 2. More recently I wrote a successful grant proposal for a community project in Kent. I run my sciart/medical technology activities from Folkestone's Creative Quarter, which is 1hr from London and 20 minutes from the Eurostar.I am a Welsh lass who was born in Boston, Mass. I have UK citizenship although dual citizenship is possible.I would love to travel and/or work elsewhere in Europe or the US, or work in the UK as part of an international research/engagement project once again.
