Dr Ira Schmelkin
A gastroenterologist with decades of clinical experience, Dr. Ira Schmelkin provides a high standard of treatment for patients at Noble Hospital in Westfield, Massachusetts, in his capacity as chief of the Department of Medicine. In preparation for his career as a specialist, he completed an internal medicine internship and residency, as well as a gastroenterology fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. While affiliated with Mount Sinai, Dr. Ira Schmelkin taught such courses as Physical Diagnosis and Gastrointestinal Pathophysiology.
Over the years, Dr. Schmelkin has published peer-reviewed research in various medical journals. Most recently, his article “Incomplete Video Capsule Endoscopy Rates are not Higher in Hospitalized Patients” appeared in the American Journal of Gastroenterology. He also has presented at numerous professional conferences and events, including the International Conference on Capsule Endoscopy and the AGA/GRG Research Forum on Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
When he is not working, Dr. Ira Schmelkin stays active by skiing and dirt biking. He also enjoys barbecuing and traveling to the West Coast and Rocky Mountains.
