Joanne H. Jones, Ed.D.

Work Experience:

I've been an educator for 22 years and I have had many wonderful experiences learning and growing with students, teachers, parents, community partners, and administrators. I have worked as a high school English teacher, an elementary assistant principal, elementary principal, middle school principal, high school principal, and central office curriculum director. I am currently the principal at Early College High School, where the students and staff have earned the title of "2011-2012 Honor School of Excellence".

Learning Forward Member (formerly NSDC) and 2010 Academy Graduate; ASCD; NCASA

Education:

I am a three-time graduate of East Carolina University: B.S., MSA, ED.S....Arrgh!

I received my doctorate (Ed.D) from Virginia Tech...Go Hokies!

Dissertation Title: The Relationship Between Professional Learning Communities and Instructional Practices

Personal:

I am a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. My hobbies are running, reading, gardening, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and being creative!

Future Goals...The next 8 years:

Short-term:
To publish articles and a chapter in a book; present at state and/or national
conferences; conduct more research; continue to make a difference wherever I am!

Mid-term:
To become an assistant superintendent...superintendent OR dean of
education...college president....not sure which path God has planned for me,
but I would like for it to be one of these!:-)

Long-term:
(Retirement)...Start an educational consulting business
