Dr. Joe Edwards

Joe Edwards, MD, serves as Chief Executive Officer and physician at Savannah OB/GYN Specialists, P.C., a woman’s health care practice that has served patients continuously in Savannah for over 40 years. From his office in Savannah, Georgia, Dr. Edwards sees patients for everything from routine gynecological checkups to high-risk obstetrical procedures. Dr. Joe Edwards also possesses extensive training in laparoscopic hysterectomies, which utilize advanced technology for minimally invasive surgery and enable patients to return home from the hospital sooner.

A fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Dr. Joe Edwards also holds membership in Georgia OB/Gyn Society and Georgia Medical Society. Before joining Savannah OB/GYN Specialists, Dr. Edwards began his professional education at the University of Georgia, from which he graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology. After graduating, he continued on to the Medical College of Georgia to earn his MD. Then, in 1990, Dr. Joe Edwards fulfilled a one-year internship before undertaking a four-year residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah.

Throughout his professional career, Joe Edwards, MD, has given his time and resources to his community and earned recognition for his contributions to the field of women’s health. For example, he regularly contributed to a blog on female health for Savannahnow.com, where he shared information on subjects like risk factors for breast cancer, which include early start of menstrual cycles, obesity, and late menopause. He has also participated in community service events for organizations such as Savannah Young Life and the Isle of Hope United Methodist Church.
