Dr. Kamran Massoumi
Doctor in Elk City / Oklahoma
Dr. Kamran Massoumi, MD, is an ophthalmologist and the owner and president of the Oklahoma Eye Institute and the Omni Surgical Center in Lawton, Oklahoma. Born in 1967 in Tehran, Iran, he hails from a family deeply involved in politics and medicine. His paternal grandfather was a prominent politician and military officer who served as the Minister of Agriculture under the Shah’s regime. He is descended from Iranian royalty on his mother's side, with his maternal grandfather being only three generations removed from the King of Iran. Despite his family’s political background, his grandfather's work in ophthalmology inspired him to follow a similar career path.
His grandfather is widely regarded as a pioneer in Iranian ophthalmology. He contributed significantly to establishing Iran’s first ophthalmology department and led efforts to address the trachoma pandemic. By age five, he had already decided to dedicate his life to ophthalmology, aiming to improve vision care as his grandfather had done.
In 1983, during the Iran-Iraq War, He moved to the United States with his mother and younger sister. They settled in Marin County, California, where he quickly adapted to his new life, learning English and adjusting to American culture. After completing high school at Marin Catholic High School, he attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a double major in Medical Physics and Middle Eastern Studies. He later earned a medical degree with distinction in research from St. Louis University Medical School. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio.
After finishing his residency, Kamran Massoumi planned to return to California. However, a shortage of ophthalmologists in Western Oklahoma led him to join the BVA practice in 2002. His dedication to public service, inspired by his grandfather’s example, drove him to stay in Oklahoma and transform the region’s eye care landscape. Over the years, He introduced advanced technology and expanded specialized services, eventually founding the Oklahoma Eye Institute in 2014. The institute brought retinal and plastic surgery specialties to the region, and he continues to provide cataract, glaucoma, and laser treatments.
