Dr Kaushik Ghosh
Photographer and Designer in India
Since ages humans, science & nature have intertwined seamlessly to transform human civilization. The story of these relationships is captured in (cave) paintings, architecture and in what we do in our day-to-day lives. I am a physician, who became a photographer, with a passion to narrate this relationship between human life, science, and the environment through visual documentation. For over a decade, I have travelled across India to create visual narratives—to tell stories of this harmonious existence of science, health & humanity through images. Somewhere along this journey, I have become an advocate for healthy lives in sustainable environments.
I conceived, designed & implemented India’s first science graduate programme in Medical & Scientific Photography at Post-graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. In 2018, I became the first Indian recipient of the Graduate Imaging Scientist (GIS ARPS) qualification in Medical & Scientific Photography from The Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain. In the past few years, I have been engaged in visual documentation of India’s public health and immunization programmes for various government & non-government organizations, like Immunization Technical Support Unit, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India; National Health Mission, Government of Madhya Pradesh; State Health Society, Government of Bihar; John Snow India (JSI); Global Health Strategies (GHS); Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), UNICEF and World Wild Fund for nature (WWF).
My solo photo-exhibition - “Behind the Scenes in Child Health” - based on seven extraordinary stories of discovery, courage and resilience behind India’s success of routine immunization held at AIFACS Gallery, New Delhi from September 6 to 12, 2019, and organised by Global Health Strategies (GHS), International Vaccine Access Centre (Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health), Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh and Child Health Foundation
