Dr. Kevin Schoenfelder's medical training was comprehensive and challenging. He began his internship at the University of California, San Francisco, immediately after medical school, from 1979 to 1980. He then completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Washington in 1984. His residency was marked by significant achievements, including receiving the Best Resident Paper award in 1984, underscoring his research capabilities and surgical acumen.

Post-residency, Kevin transitioned to an academic role, serving as an Instructor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Washington. His commitment to medical education was evident as he took great pride in training aspiring surgeons. His expertise in orthopedic surgery also led him to international roles, including a stint as a Traveling Faculty member in Japan at the University of Hokkaido in 1984 and a fellowship in Hong Kong at the University of Hong Kong in 1985, specializing in spine and pediatric orthopedics.

Kevin's clinical research made substantial contributions to orthopedic surgery. His influential paper on the Sparing of L5/S1 in Long Fusions of Scoliosis, presented at the Scoliosis Research Society in 1987, was acclaimed as one of the year's best papers. He also made significant strides in developing techniques for the Anterior Fixation of Spinal Fractures using the Kaneda device, work that the Scoliosis Research Society also recognized.

In 1985, Kevin entered private practice with Puget Sound Spine Associates, where he provided specialized care for spine-related disorders, helping numerous patients improve their quality of life. His career flourished when he joined the Franciscan Spine Group in 2008, where he worked until his retirement in 2018. During his time there, his exceptional rapport with patients earned him the 5-star Patient Satisfaction Award for every quarter from 2008 to 2018, a testament to his dedication and expertise.

Orthopedic surgery, in which Dr. Schoenfelder specializes, focuses on the musculoskeletal system, including bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. These components are vital for movement and stability, and orthopedic surgeons like him play a crucial role in diagnosing, treating, and preventing conditions that can affect these systems.
