A practicing dentist for over 30 years, Dr. Khaled Emile Hashem most recently served for five years as a freelance practitioner in Lebanon, where he provided free dental services for refugees and others in need. As owner of Glebe Dental Clinics from 1986 until 2010, he operated a dentistry practice in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Khaled Emile Hashem trained and evaluated the clinics’ staff and performed procedures ranging from fillings and root canals to tooth extractions and gum surgery. Under his direction, Glebe Dental Clinics offered free care for local clergy and members of refugee communities in Ottawa.
A former member of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, Dr. Khaled Emile Hashem has treated many high-ranking political officials, including the prime minister of Canada. While a member of the board of directors for the Medical Research Council of Canada, he helped develop the ethical code regulating research involving human beings. Dr. Hashem has also lectured overseas at a university dental school in Sudan and published articles in several scholarly journals.
Highly engaged in philanthropic activities, Dr. Khaled Emile Hashem has twice won a Volunteer Award from the Government of Ontario. He helped found the Federation de la Jeunesse Franco-Ontarienne and has served terms as executive director of both the Canadian Alliance for Visible Minorities and the Council of Arab Canadian Associations of Ottawa. Over the years, he has secured financial and other vital assistance for many immigrants to America and Canada who have been displaced from their home countries.
