Dr. Jason Lau
Dr. Jason Lau grew up in Hong Kong. He received a Diploma in Social Work (w/ credit) form the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. In 1997 he enrolled at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) where he later received his B.A. in Leisure Services (programming) in 1999 and M.A. in Leisure, Youth and Human Services Administration in 2002.
In November, 2011, UNI Alumni Association presented Dr. Lau with the Young Alumnus Award. This award is presented to a graduate who has demonstrated success early in his/her career and who has been active in the life of the University. While a student, Dr. Lau was the recipient of the 1999 UNI Purple and Gold Meritorious Scholarship Award chosen by faculty to the most outstanding graduating senior in each major at UNI. In addition, he received the ALS/SPRE/NRPA Future Scholars Award in 2000. This award is based on academic ability, scholarly potential and overall professionalism to outstanding master’s students sponsored by the Academy of Leisure Sciences, the Society of Park and Recreation Educators, and National Recreation and Park Association. Dr. Lau also received the Carole J. Hanson Outstanding Senior Award and the Outstanding Graduate Student Award.
Dr. Lau holds a Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Leadership Studies from The University of Iowa. He is currently the Director of Community Education, Lifelong Learning and International Education at the College of Marin in Kentfield, California.
