Dr. Lawrence Markovitz, an expert in coronary bypass surgery, now channels his expertise into advanced treatment of vein disorders, including varicose veins, at Virginia Vein Care. While serving as Chief of Cardiac Surgery at the Mayo-affiliated Midelfort Clinic, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Dr. Markovitz saw more of his patients survive coronary bypass surgery than any other doctor in Wisconsin in 2000. Dr. Markovitz also has expertise in surgery on patients over 70 years old, and has presented on the topic of emergency operations for the over-70 age group at the Joel Hartley Memorial Symposium in New York.

Lawrence Markovitz, MD, has published widely on thoracic and cardiac surgery topics, including lung-cancer detection and prevention. He has received several fellowships, most recently a Clinical Fellowship in Adult and Pediatric Open Heart Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York.

Dr. Markovitz's recognized expertise in both cardiac and thoracic surgery has earned him several honors, including double recognition as a "Top Doctor" by both Washingtonian Magazine and Washington Checkbook. In the spirit of community service, he has served as Chairman of the Chippewa Valley Regional American Heart Walk.

Lawrence Markovitz, MD, lives in Rockville, Maryland, with his wife and children. When he's not treating patients, he enjoys baseball, football, and skiing.
