Lee Monroe

In his work with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), education administration professional Dr. Lee Monroe has endeavored to unite learning communities through community-centered fundraisers and academic programs designed to offer higher academic opportunities to individuals who might not have them otherwise. His career of almost 40 years boasts administrational roles with four, historically black institutions: Shaw University, Paul Quinn College, Florida Memorial University, and Vorhees College. Dr. Lee Monroe has strengthened each of these institutions. Dr. Lee Monroe’s many efforts within higher education have earned him numerous awards as well as frequent speaking opportunities. A leader on many fronts, Dr. Lee Monroe served as the first African American individual to act as Senior Educational Policy Advisor to the Governor. Roles like these have garnered Dr. Lee Monroe awards like Black Man of the Year and one of South Florida’s Most Influential Blacks. He lives in Wilmington, North Carolina and enjoys a quiet life of painting, reading, and spending time with his sons. A child of the housing projects and member of UNCF National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education, Dr. Lee Monroe holds three degrees and a lifetime of accomplishments.
