Dr. Mark McBath

Houston, Texas, United States

Dr. Mark McBath is a former American college football player. He was the starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns from 1976-1978 and then went on to become a board-certified general surgeon and fellowship-trained surgical oncologist in Houston, Texas.

McBath began his college football career in 1976 at the University of Texas. He was initially selected as the back-up to Randy McEachern, Mike Cordano and Ted Costanzo. He competed for the 4th string role with a fellow freshman; however, he ended up being put in as a starter later that year.

The following year, McBath began the season as starting quarterback and led Texas to three consecutive wins. With the team ranked 4th, McBath’s season came to an abrupt and unfortunate halt when he broke his ankle during a game. The injury forced him to sit out the remainder of the season.

After three seasons, Dr. Mark McBath decided to focus on his studies - he wanted to go to medical school. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and continued on to the University of Texas Medical School for postgraduate training, where he earned his M.D.

Although his footbal days are over, Dr. Mark McBath is still a proud supporter of the Longhorns. He holds season tickets to Longhorn games and tries to catch as much of the season as possible.
