Dr. Matthew Withiam-Leitch

After beginning his career as a practicing OB/GYN physician in the Greater Buffalo, New York community, Dr. Matthew Withiam-Leitch is now dedicated to his research pursuits as an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine.

Following the completion of his medical degree, Dr. Withiam-Leitch served as a Resident Physician in the Department of Gynecology-Obstetrics at the University at Buffalo, then spent a year in a small, private practice focused on Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN). Dr. Withiam-Leitch next accepted an Assistant Professor position with the University of Buffalo, working with aspiring physicians and publishing in his own research fields. Matthew Withiam-Leitch, M.D. ultimately was named an Associate Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology before shifting his focus to his current role as an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Family Medicine. Throughout his career Dr. Withiam-Leitch also held several administrative positions including Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Buffalo General Hospital, Vice President of the Board, University Gynecologists and Obstetricians, Inc., as well as a number of positions in the Department of Gynecology-Obstetrics at the University at Buffalo including, Division Director of General Obstetrics and Gynecology, Associate Residency Program Director, HIPPA and Medicare Compliance Coordinator, and Associate Director of Medical Education in the Teaching and Research Innovation Center (METRIC) at the University at Buffalo.

Matthew Withiam-Leitch, M.D. holds an undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Albany. He remained at the University of Albany to complete a Master of Science (M.S.) in Animal Behavior and Evolutionary Biology and went on to earn a combined MD/PhD in medicine, pharmacology, and biochemistry at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine.

In his spare time, Dr. Matthew Withiam-Leitch enjoys boating and staying active. He also supports several charitable organizations including The John J. Conniff Society, a member of Catholic Charities of Buffalo, The Withiam-Leitch Family Scholarship at Cardinal O'Hara High School offering a full tuition scholarship for exceptional students, as well as Voices Ending Violence Society of the Family Justice Center.
