Dror Soref

An award-winning writer, director, and producer of music videos and motion pictures, Dror Soref immigrated to the United States in the early 1980s to pursue filmmaking. A native of Israel, Soref studied at the University of Haifa and served as a Lieutenant in the Israeli Defense Force's elite Golani Brigade in several conflicts. He was active in local politics, helping found a new national political party that nominated him for parliament. His career aspirations took a turn in his senior year when Dror Soref attended a film workshop and decided to move to America to pursue his interest in the industry.

Dror Soref studied filmmaking at the San Francisco Art Institute. He then matriculated to the University of Southern California in Los Angeles where he earned a Master of Fine Arts in Cinema Arts. Launching a career in filmmaking shortly after graduation, Dror Soref directed "I Love Rocky Road," a music video for rock parodist "Weird Al" Yankovic in 1983. His success with the video began a decade-long career in the music video industry, producing more than 100 commercials and music videos under his company, Orbit Productions. Simultaneously, Soref saw success directing an inspirational short film called Platinum Blonde that caught the attention of Paramount Studios executives. He went under contract with Paramount to write and develop projects. His debut, The Seventh Coin, won Best First Time Director at the Philadelphia Film Festival and recognition at Worldfest Houston's Silver Awards.

Operating Orbit Productions, LLC, as Chief Executive Officer since 1986, Dror Soref has garnered numerous industry successes. Through a multi-picture deal with Phoenix Pictures, he directed Basic, starring John Travolta, in 2003. In 2009, he co-wrote, directed, and produced Not Forgotten, a thriller shot in New Mexico. The movie, starring The Mentalist's Simon Baker, received rave reviews from Variety and The Hollywood Reporter and a nomination for a Saturn Award by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror. Morning, a short film he directed and produced in 2012, received an invitation to participate in the Seattle Erotic Art Festival.
