Dr Pedro Kuri

Tijuana, Mexico

A member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity, Dr. Pedro Kuri has more than three decades of surgical experience. First working as a surgery specialist at General Hospital National Medical Center in Mexico City while completing his residency, he quickly made a name for himself within the field, taking on such roles as general surgeon at Tijuana Baja California Hospital and chairman of both surgery and the division of surgery at Tijuana General Hospital. In 1982, Dr. Pedro Kuri successfully trained in BioEnterics’ Lap-Band procedure and, shortly after, founded Dr. Kuri and Associates, where he currently works. Since then, he has completed more than 5,500 Lap-Band procedures, with support from his experienced team.

An active member within the professional community, Dr. Kuri has held several leadership positions at various professional organizations throughout his career. He was the vice president and president of the Surgical Association of Baja California, and he maintains a membership at the Latin American Society of Laparoscopic Surgery. Dr. Kuri’s success within the field earned him recognition at the IFSO 13th World Congress, where he was credited as a pioneer of the Lap-Band system in Latin America, and he has received rave reviews and positive feedback from patients.

Outside of the office, Dr. Kuri enjoys golf, travel, and music, and he hosts an annual Bandster Bash, a two-day celebration and educational event for Lap-Band patients.
