Dr. Ralph Soney began his career in higher education teaching at both the two-year college level and at the university level. With graduate degrees in two disciplines, he served as an adjunct professor in history and psychology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He also served in the position of instructor of psychology and history at Western Piedmont Community College in Morganton, NC. The college named Dr. Ralph Soney teacher of the year in 1993, and promoted him to coordinator of social sciences in 1995.

In 1997, Dr. Soney became the division director for human services and social sciences at Wayne Community College in Goldsboro. During his administration he helped to start a certified substance abuse program, as well as a special third-shift education program at a local prison.

Mitchell Community College in Statesville brought Dr. Soney on as vice president for instructional services in 2000. He managed an eight million dollar budget and more than 100 faculty and staff members.

At Pitt Community College in Greenville, he developed the first weekend college program in the school’s history. As vice president for academics, he also oversaw implementation of several new academic programs.

From 2005 to 2012, Dr. Soney was the President of Roanoke-Chowan Community College. He doubled course offerings at local prisons, created a fine arts gallery, and established a weekend college, all while creating a budget surplus.

Presently, he is the vice president of corporate and continuing education at Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown, where he is also the interim director for the Aviation Division.
