Dr. Sabha Ganai is a longtime surgical oncologist who most recently directed gastrointestinal oncology at Southern Illinois University. Her present responsibilities include a position with the University of Chicago as a senior ethics fellow. With a particular focus on addressing rural health care disparities, Dr. Sabha Ganai was honored with the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract Health Care Disparities Research Award in 2015.

Over the decades, Dr. Ganai has had more than 50 articles and book chapters published, including “Targeting Bacteriolytic Therapy of Solid Tumors Using Salmonella Typhimurium” (Annals of Surgical Oncology, 2007). Attending the 2019 Digestive Disease Week in San Diego, she presented the paper “Analysis of county-level access to specialized providers on Colorectal Cancer Incidence and Mortality in Illinois.”

Dr. Ganai’s educational background includes a general surgery residency completed at the Baystate Medical Center of Tufts University. During this time, she was Trauma Resident of the Year and received the Excellence in Teaching Citation for Residents. Dr. Sabha Ganai’s work on “Tumor-Targeted Delivery of TRAIL Using Salmonella typhimurium in Metastatic Breast Cancer in the Syngeneic Murine Model” also earned her the Award for Innovation in Research while a Tufts resident.
