Frederick Shinners, Jr.
Dr. Shinners was born in Ottawa, Illinois, at the junction of the Fox and Illinois Rivers. Or as they say in Indiana, Illanoisz. We stayed there for almost 4 years before moving to Vienna, West Virginia. Growing up there really formed the foundation of many of my beliefs. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Dayton ,in Dayton Ohio. It was a great experience. Thomas Wolfe said that you can't go home again, but Dr. Shinners would say that they sure didn't go to UD! Go Flyers!! Graduating in 1994 from Southern College of Optometry, in Memphis, Tennessee, Dr. Shinners spent the next five years working for a very busy practice. In September of 1999, He felt it was time to fulfill a dream of his and open his own practice. "I couldn't think of any other place I would want to be," Says Dr. Shinners. In 2002, he married my wife Sarah, who helps me to run the office, and became the father of 4 wonderful kids. So here he is, full time Optometrist, full time father. He is active in the community and regularly provides vision screenings at local schools as well as supporting the Hootie and the Blowfish's Hometown Days and E.C.C.O. In his spare time Dr. Shinners loves to play golf, travel and read books on Military History.
