Dr Sunny Walia

Dr. Sunny Walia, founder and managing director of Walia Hopital in Punjab are one of the leading and most successful cardiologists in India. He was born in a farmer’s family in the city of Ludhiana during the pre-Partition period and spent his childhood in a small house with two siblings. Since the family income was moderate and mostly seasonal, Dr Sunny Walia, along with his siblings went through the struggles of initial Financial crisis during their childhood and the situation stayed almost same till he went to college. Though he was amongst the brightest student in his school with an active participation in both studies and extracurricular activities, his monetary issues dragged him back from turning those hobbies into passion.

Still, It was his zest of working towards the poor which drawn him to the medical field and once he completed his MBBS from King George's Medical College, Lucknow. He started to run his small clinic near his home only where he used to serve the patients and even when his financial situation was not that sound he often looked after the underprivileged patients without any charges. The main reason behind him choosing the heart surgery as a specialization was due to this issue being the most common amongst Indian people mainly because of their unhealthy lifestyles and unscheduled diets and moreover, thousands and millions of poor often goes untreated due to huge costs involved in the treatment. This is something which pushed Dr. Sunny Walia to Heart surgery and he made sure that the treatment goes affordable to as many people as possible.
