Thomas Gratzer, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist with more than three decades of experience in general and forensic psychiatry across Minnesota. Based in the Twin Cities, he has worked with major healthcare institutions, including Regions Hospital, United Hospital, Fairview University Medical Center, and Psych Recovery. His demanding practice includes roughly 100 patient visits per week, as well as multiple forensic evaluations that support courts and legal proceedings.

Throughout his career, Dr. Thomas Gratzer has held several influential positions that shaped mental health services in both hospitals and correctional settings. He served as Senior Forensic Psychiatrist at the Minnesota Security Hospital and later consulted for the Minnesota Department of Corrections, where he focused on psychiatric care for incarcerated youth. He also worked for more than two decades as an attending psychiatrist at United Hospital in St. Paul.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Gratzer built a strong academic reputation through teaching and mentorship. As an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School, he educated medical students, psychiatry residents, and law students for nearly twenty years. His lectures were delivered at institutions in both the United States and Canada, reflecting his ability to bridge medicine, law, and forensic psychiatry in meaningful and practical ways.

Dr. Gratzer has also contributed extensively to research and professional organizations within psychiatry. Beyond medicine, Dr. Thomas Gratzer has long been interested in computer science and technology. During his early years, he earned recognition for computer programming projects and later coauthored a book on TRS-80 computing. He also helped develop VP Info, a database programming language for IBM PCs that achieved commercial success. Outside of work, he enjoys skiing, tennis, exercise, travel, and fine dining while remaining committed to supporting mental health education and university initiatives.
