Dr. Thomas M. Koenig
An accomplished orthopedic surgeon and founder of Tennessee Valley Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Associates, PC, Thomas M. Koenig, MD established a solid academic foundation and regularly garners recognition in his field. Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Tom Koenig has made a number of significant medical accomplishments since the launch of his career more than 20 years ago.
With an extensive record of continuing education and professional affiliations, Tom Koenig, MD currently maintains an orthopedic medical staff appointment and full staff privileges at the Knoxville-based Parkwest Hospital and its neighboring Parkwest Surgery Center. Additionally, he holds courtesy privileges at Knoxville’s Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, the University of Tennessee Medical Center, Mercy Medical Center St. Mary’s, and Mercy Medical Center West.
A member of the Tennessee Medical Association and Knoxville Academy of Medicine, Tom Koenig, MD earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology cum laude from Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania, in 1982. Tom Koenig then completed a Doctor of Medicine with honors in orthopedics in 1986 at Hahnemann Medical University in Philadelphia (now part of Drexel University), followed by a general surgery internship and then an orthopedic residency. Tom Koenig, MD continued his studies at Hahnemann, and in 1989, he was honored with the A.S.O.A. Residency Award. Dr. Koenig concluded an orthopedic residency in 1991, and then entered into a Sportsmedicine and Arhroscopy fellowship in Washington DC.
A speaker for the Southeastern Worker's Compensation Board in Knoxville in 2008, Tom Koenig has furthered his knowledge of surgery over the last two decades. A fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Tom Koenig frequently participates in orthopedic training events and conferences across the United States.
