Maria Martinez is a drummer, percussionist clinician and educator. Her musical talents extend to the authorship of numerous book/CD packages and instructional DVD's that span virtually every drumming style (all published by Hal Leonard). Maria's Afro-Cuban Coordination for Drumset and Brazilian Coordination for Drumset were the first published coordination instructional books/DVD's in those styles. Martinez is also the author of Rudimental Warm Ups and Instant Guide to Drum Grooves. She is co-founder and author of the World Beat Rhythms Beyond the Drum Circle: Cuba, Africa, Brazil and USA.
Maria condutcts workshops, master classes, concerts and clinics at Colleges, Universities, schools and International Music Conferences.
She has traveled the globe to perform at major venues and share both stage and studio with artists such as Barry White, Klymaxx, Angela Bofill, El Chicano, Tim Weisberg, Emmanuel and Nel Carter amongst others.
Her articles have appeared in Modern Drummer, Drum Magazine, and Percussive Notes amongst others. She is the content editor for the Poncho Sanchez DVD entitled Fundamentals of Latin Music for the Rhythm Section.
Her endorsements include: Drum Workshop/PDP, Remo, Regal Tip, Paiste, Latin Percussion, Protection Racket and E-Pad.
