Teacher Professional development facilitator in Brunei Darussalam
As a Special Grade Education Officer at the Ministry of Education, Brunei Darussalam, I am dedicated to enhancing teaching and learning through professional development and evidence-based practices. At the Brunei Darussalam Leadership and Teacher Academy (BDLTA), I design and deliver programs that empower educators and leaders to achieve sustainable improvements.
Key Responsibilities and Contributions:
Professional Development: I lead the facilitation of courses that address pedagogical challenges, employing methods like lesson study to refine teaching practices. I’ve trained Economics teachers to enhance assessment accuracy and develop student-focused lessons.
Leadership Mentoring: Mentoring subject leaders to lead action research and lesson study initiatives fosters continuous improvement and evidence-based practices across departments.
Academic Writing and Publishing: I developed a modular course on academic writing and publishing, equipping educators with the skills to document and share their insights, fostering a research-informed teaching culture.
Research Contributions: In 2025 I edited a book ‘Teacher Professional Learning: Enhancing Instructional Leadership through Lesson Study’ which documented subject leaders' experiences of leading lesson study in their departments.
My co-authored paper, “Analysing a Chemistry Lesson on Ionic Bonding: Insights from a Learning Study,” was published in December 2024, showcasing my dedication to advancing pedagogical research.
Career Highlights:
Leadership and Management: As a former school leader in state and private sectors, I successfully led improvement initiatives in challenging circumstances.
Teaching Excellence: With extensive Economics teaching experience, I’ve marked A-level Economics scripts for a UK examination board and received a Special Mention from the Ministry of Education in 2010. I am a Microsoft Certified Educator (2025) and a member of the Chartered College of Teaching (2026).
Editorial and Review Roles: I have reviewed for The International Journal for Lesson and Learning Studies and Brunei’s Teachers’ Day Conference E-Proceedings. I am a Council Member of the World Association of Lesson Studies (WALS).
Awards: In 2006, the Brunei Government recognized my service with the Pingat Indah Kerja Baik (PIKB) or Excellent Award medal.
