Dr Dorcas Maina

Nurse in Nairobi

I am a nurse practitioner currently living in Nairobi. I am a holder of PhD in public health (epidemiology) from Walden University, a master's degree in nursing from the University of Nairobi, and a bachelor's degree from Moi University Eldoret.

I am an experienced nurse, having worked in nursing education for the last 15 years, training both undergraduate and graduate students. I have developed a passion for nephrology, having trained nurses at the diploma and master's levels. I also have a special interest in critical care nephrology and preventive aspects of nephrology.

I have been the scientific chair for the African Nephrology Nurses Association since its inception in 2019. This is an association that brings African nephrology nurses together in their collaborative effort to manage kidney disease.

I am a member of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and serve as a member of the Health Professionals Working Group. I am also a member of the ISN Africa board.

I have contributed to reviewing the Swahili translation of the ‘Are your kidneys healthy quiz’ hosted by the ISN.

I have published in peer-reviewed journals and supervised 24 master's students and am currently supervising three PhD students.

My interests range from music to dogs. I am also interested in the outdoors and volunteering.
