Dr Yusof Mutahar (MBBS FRACGP) is an Australian medical doctor, author, and theologian operating at the convergence of clinical science, classical faith, and intellectual history. A graduate of the University of Western Australia and a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, he is recognized for integrating a medical career with advanced Islamic scholarship and competitive athletics.

Dr Mutahar practices as a specialist General Practitioner in Western Australia, focusing on preventive medicine, chronic disease management, and medical education. He has authored several key medical texts for clinicians and students, including ECG Simplified, a high-yield guide to interpreting medical electrocardiograms in acute and primary care settings; Secondary Causes of Hypertension in General Practice, a diagnostic framework evaluating uncommon hypertensive disorders; and An Approach to Hypercalcaemia in General Practice, a concise clinical handbook detailing the systematic investigation and management of elevated serum calcium levels.

Dr Mutahar pursued extensive training in the classical Islamic sciences, specializing in Quran Tafsir, Hanafi Fiqh, and Maturidi Kalam, while holding a traditional licence (ijāzah) in the Hanafi Maturidi tradition. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Islamic Studies to further anchor his research within modern academia. Dr Mutahar is a direct descendant of the first Caliph of Islam, Hazrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq. He is also the nephew and student of the world-renowned Islamic legal scholar, Professor Mohammad Hashim Kamali, who serves as his mentor.

His extensive publishing corpus spans six academic disciplines, defining multiple historic, world-first milestones. In the branch of Qur’anic Exegesis (Tafsir), his lifetime project is the multi-volume English translation and analytical commentary, Tafsir al-Maturidi. Translating Imam Abu Mansur al-Maturidi’s monumental Ta’wilat Ahl al-Sunnah, this ongoing project is projected to exceed 20,000 pages upon completion, making it one of the largest continuous Qur'anic commentaries undertaken in English by a single author.

In the branch of Prophetic Traditions (Hadith), his major work, Sahih Musnad al-Imam al-Azam Abu Hanifah: 200 Authenticated Hadith with Critical Introduction and Commentary, is a monumental breakthrough. This text marks the first time in history, in any language, that a fully vetted, authentic (sahih) collection of traditions transmitted by Imam Abu Hanifah has been compiled and published. Featuring rigorous chain-of-transmission (sanad) analysis and biographical evaluation (ilm al-rijal), it stands as a premier academic defense of Imam Abu Hanifah’s status as a master of Hadith.

In Jurisprudence & Legal Theory (Fiqh & Usul al-Fiqh), his major publication is Imam Abu Hanifah: The Master of Qiyas. Building upon his earlier work, Father of the Inkpot: Imam Abu Hanifa – The Greatest Imam (2024), this volume provides a sustained study of Hanafi legal reasoning, exploring advanced themes in usul al-fiqh and applying classical methodology to modern challenges, a branch supported by his specialized jurisprudential monographs on Moonsighting.

In Scholarly Biography & Intellectual History (Kalaam), his work Imam Maturidi: Architect of Islamic Creed provides a definitive historical and biographical analysis of Imam Abu Mansur al-Maturidi. Beyond the core biography, the book delves extensively into the fine details, foundational principles, epistemology, and theological beliefs of the Maturidi school, mapping out its systemic codification of orthodox Sunni theology against early heterodox movements.

In Creed & Foundational Orthodoxy (Aqidah), his landmark 260-page textbook, Al-Fiqh al-Akbar and Kitab al-Tawhid: An Integrated Commentary on the Essential Teachings of Imam al-Azam Abu Hanifah and Imam al-Maturidi, represents another historic, world-first milestone. It is the first work in any language to systematically synthesize and integrate these two foundational masterpieces into a single, unified exposition. Organized around the six pillars of faith, it demonstrates the organic unity and epistemological harmony between the two towering authorities of the Hanafi-Maturidi tradition.

In Theological Refutation & Divine Transcendence (Tanzih), his book Allah Exists Without a Place: A Refutation of Anthropomorphism presents a precise academic defense of orthodox Sunni creed. The text focuses heavily on divine transcendence (tanzīh), dismantling anthropomorphic interpretations (tashbīh) and clarifying complex metaphysical concepts for contemporary audiences.

Dr Mutahar is an accomplished martial artist and former national-level judo competitor. He won a gold medal in the 2017 Judo Australian Nationals and represented Australia internationally in the Under-81kg division. He actively mentors junior doctors while advocating widely for public preventive health and medical education. He is widely considered a polymath.
