Duane Stillions

Over the course of a decade, Dr. Duane Stillions has successfully practiced anesthesiology as an intern, resident, and fellow as well as a staff physician at several respected hospitals and medical institutions. Dr. Stillions earned his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry at the University of Kansas and then went on to the University of Kansas School of Medicine where he received his Doctor of Medicine in 1994. Following the receipt of his medical degree, Dr. Stillions was selected by the University of Kansas Medical Center for an internship in internal medicine which he completed from 1994 to 1995. From 1995 to 1998, Dr. Duane Stillions fulfilled a residency in anesthesia at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, and subsequently was selected for a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship with subspecialty training in cardiac anesthesiology from July 1998 to July 1999. In 1999, after the completion of his internship, residency, and fellowship, Dr. Duane Stillions was employed by Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, as a staff anesthesiologist. As a Senior Group Member, Dr. Stillions supervised the care of more than 14,000 pediatric anesthetic patients annually and directly provided cardiac anesthesia 30 percent of all clinical time. In addition to utilizing his proficiency in medical knowledge and anesthesia, Dr. Duane Stillions also served as the Operating Room Board Manager, whose duty it was to maintain operating room assignments on a daily basis. He also chaired the Recruitment Committee from 2000 to 2002. From 2003 to 2004 Dr. Duane Stillions served as a staff anesthesiologist at Fairfax Hospital for Women and Children in Falls Church, Virginia, where he worked within a tertiary care center and provided pediatric care half of all clinical time. More recently, Dr. Stillions worked from 2004 to 2009 at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC, where he was a staff anesthesiologist, providing cardiac anesthesia roughly 80 percent of clinical time and served as Chairperson of both the Recruitment Committee and Family Centered Care Committee from 2005 to 2008. Dr. Duane Stillions also was appointed as the Hospital Safety Officer at Children's National Medical Center and facilitated numerous medical trips to Uganda during which he provided cardiac care to Ugandan children and contributed to the development of the infrastructure of Ugandan healthcare.
