When I decided to start my blog, I wanted to speak to girls who were like me- a little exotic, a little different, a little a-typical. I found I was constantly scouring countless blogs and websites looking for the perfect beauty, fashion and fitness tips, but nothing was speaking specifically to ME…And I know I’m not alone. Sure, media outlets have to talk to the majority, but in doing so, the majority starts looking en peu stereotypical. Not all brown girls are the same, but most of the “urban” fashion and beauty blogs are.
I am inspired by brown women (yes that includes you mixie babies, Latinas, and Middle Eastern mommas too) that are making big moves. They’re hustling to make a name for themselves in their careers, getting in shape, cooking healthy clean meals for themselves and their families, all while embracing different lifestyles and cultures. I am inspired by women in my own family and social circles who are bold, loud, and creative, who are natural and proud to stand out in any crowd of any color. By not fitting in, the Not Your Average Brown Girl is creating her own niche of fabulous- one that needs to be recognized and applauded, not categorized.
So in the vein of being unique and different, Not Your Average Brown Girl was born, no baby daddy in sight!
bisous xx
