I've had several people ask why I call myself dumbgirlnails. Read on if you are someone who wonders about it.

A lot of people assume that I'm calling myself dumb. Like, "I'm a dumb girl and these are my nails," but that's really not what I meant when I came up with it. Story time!

I'm not particularly "girly" in the way most people would describe it. When I started doing nail art, my boyfriend said something like "hey, you really are a girl!" and I said "yeah, look at these girl nails!" They weren't very good so I added "These dumb girl nails," meaning that the nails both belonged to a girl and were dumb, not that I was a dumb girl with nails.

When I made my Instagram account, I didn't plan for it to be nails only. I actually had a completely different username, but it had a swear word in it and some people seemed a little put off by it. I wanted to be able to talk with some nail artists without offending them, so I quickly changed my name to dumbgirlnails, thinking I could just change it again later. I didn't expect to end up watermarking stuff, making videos, etc., so I didn't put any thought into my username at all and now I feel it's too late to change it. I honestly don't think I'd be able to come up with something better anyway.
