Dustin Larimer
I am a post-graduate student of Design Management, an architect of web experiences, an entrepreneur and a traveler. My mission is to build frameworks that catalyze creative potential to help communities grow stronger. I am currently working on my MFA thesis, titled “Identifying & Exploring New Opportunities for Innovation & Reconfiguration in the Independent Food Sector,” which recently received the 2010 SCAD Thesis Proposal Award for the fall quarter. This past summer I had the good fortune to join a medical anthropology expedition for three weeks in the trans-Himalayan range of northern India, with profound implications for my interest in social design and humanitarian development. There are several photo galleries of my travels available at www.dustinlarimer.com. Prior to my time at SCAD I spent several years in web design, development and media, working for firms that ranged from small and intimate to the Fortune 100. Since joining the Design Management department I have participated in a wide range of projects dealing with the dynamics of collaboration and emergent creativity, organizational strategy and innovation, scenario development, the social construction of meaning and identity, social network analysis, methods of contextual research, and business model innovation. These topics are not applied in isolation, but rather blend together to shape a powerful approach to discovering original, human-centric solutions to the big nasty problems in the world.
